Even better screenshots!

I posted in January a tip with the quick shortcuts for taking screenshots: "Command - Shift - 3" for the whole screen and "Command - Shift - 4" for a part. Well here is a great tip submitted by Joseph that complements that. When you press "Command - Shift - 4", instead of selecting an area to capture, you can simply add a "Spacebar" and a little camera will pop up enabling you to take a screenshot of only one window without having to select precisely what to capture! Thanks Joseph for that great tip!

great tip!
also if you don't want the screenshot to be saved as a pdf file on your desktop you can add the control key and it will save it to your clipboard and now you can paste it in the application you're using

Just so you guys know, these actions are all performed by the preview application and can be accessed from it by going to file -> grab and there they are! Just in case you forget the shortcuts.

Actually, Apple does list this info. You can find this in Mac Help (Help menu in Finder). Search for Screenshots, or Grab, or Shortcuts!

This does not work with a Macbook Pro.

I am certainly not questening mikemansfield's experience but both methods work fine on my MacBook Pro. By the way, screenshot saves files as a png file, not a pdf file. Grab saves them as tiff files.

This is an excellent tip !

When I buy stuff online this is the best way to keep something in your records and not wasting any paper printing my receipts...

A very handy widget that does these two tasks is called 'Screen shot plus'...try it !

As usual thanks for the tip!

Javier, try option (alt) backspace takes a whole word at a time instead of a single character. Good luck.
