The Command-Tab, but backwards!
A great tip submitted by Tristan P-M: The Command-Tab, but backwards! Most of you know that very useful "Command-Tab" dialog that brings up all the open applications so that you can choose to which one you want to switch to. There are many ways of using this dialog to hide or quit apps (I explained how in a previous tip), but one that I didn't know is that you can also go backwards. I normally press "Command-Tab" and while holding "Command", hit "Tab" until I am on the right application. I usually do this very fast and I often press "Tab" once too many and I end up having to cycle through all the applications again. It is finally much longer (especially when you have about fifteen applications running all the time!). Well, the quicker way is to go backwards. After pressing the "Command-Tab" and while holding "Command", you can simply hit ` to go backwards (it is "ù" on the French keyboard). This is actually the key just over Tab, which makes it very convenient. Thanks for the great tip Tristan!

You can also use the left and right arrows with 'Command', or just hover the mouse, while holding down 'Command'
very good tip. i usually use command-shift-tab, but command-` is much simpler. much appreciated.
you can also use command shift tab... the shift tends to reverse most other combinations like shift space in preview walks you backwards through the pages instead And in Safari space goes down and shift space goes up a page at a time

You can cicle trough the apps using your mouse or arrows.
The useful other thing is that when you highlight your desidered app you can quit the app by hitting "Q" key.
I usually hit Command-Tab once and then use the arrow keys to go forward and back.
If someone with - lets say - a danish keyboard, is wondering what this ´ button is all about.. Try hitting your lower- greaterthan button. The one between LeftShift and Z :)
On Windoz machines, command + (or alt) tab toggles through each open window, while on Mac OS X it only toggles through each application. I was a little uncomfortable with this (being a recent switcher) until I noticed that command + ' allows you to toggle through each open window in the current application. I thought this was amazing!
Changing between windows can be done using switch.
And for people in the United Kingdom, follow Phillip's instruction. Then it will work. Good tip!
To clarify, I should have said: "The required key is between Left Shift and Z".
On a German keyboard it is the < key!
Damian's suggestions are easier and quicker.
i've hidden an application pressing H and it still shows as open in command tab which is good but is there a key I can press to unhide it and bring to the forefront (i'm a windows convert and miss the alt-tab feature)
Somehow I got my MS mouse to activate ctrl-tab when i "click" and hold down the scroll wheel.
Then while holding it down, I scroll back or forth to switch to another app. It's a little tough to scroll more than 3-4 "steps" while holding the button down though, so I end up moving the mouse and left-clicking the app I want to switch to.

When using a seperate keyboard with MacBook or so, it doesn't work. Use what was mentioned before: the command-shift-tab ot the arrow.
