More efficient Spotlight researches!

Spotlight is one of the great improvement that came with Mac OS Tiger, but many features are not obvious from the start. I heard many complaints about the fact that it is not possible to bring up the full-featured spotlight research window without first searching in the basic drop-down menu and choosing “Show All” from that menu. There is actually a way of doing this that is built into the system. Most of you are aware that you can bring up the basic Spotlight drop-down menu with “Command-Space Bar”. Well to bring up the full-featured Spotlight window, you simply have to press “Option-Command-Space Bar”.

good tip, but im just wondering if theres a way to delete items that are found by spotlight. i usually just use spotlight to find items i want to delete, and to do so i have to "reveal in finder" and then delete it. any help?

Thanks. Tips like these are always obvious seeming, but I doubt any of us truly know every shortcut key command.

As for deleting from spotlight you can drag any file from the full featured spotlight directly into the trash without having to click reveal in finder.

I found it easier just to create a keyboard shortcut. I chose my F1 key to bring up the full-feature window.

If you always use the full-feature windows, you can change the cmd-spacebar shortcut to open that window...

or you can just use the normal spotlight search (as i've chosen to use option+apple+space as my language changer shortcut), and as soon as results come up, tap return. simple as that.

you cannot hit backspace to delete items from there, but you CAN drag them to the trash can. and they don't have to be from the same section (documents, folders, other, etc.). apple+click all the files you want to delete, drag them to the trash. they'll still be there, but their location has now changed to the trash can. just empty your trash to make them dissappear.

it's a great way to get rid of pesky or corrupt .plist files :)

You also have to have the boxes checked at the bottom of the Spotlight control panel to use these shortcuts.
