Moving the Dock!

It is pretty well known that you can resize the Dock by clicking on the line between the trash and the application icons and dragging it left or right (up or down if your dock is on either side). One of the things that is even better is that you can hold down "Shift" while clicking on that divider. It will let you drag the dock at the left or at the right of the screen . Changing the location of the Dock can already be done in System Preferences, but this way is much quicker if you want to change it often. There are some applications that it is actually better to have it on the side, while some works better with the Dock on the bottom.

This tip came in just as I was looking for some way to move my dock easily and quickly. Unfortunately the shift-click doesn't work on my machines (intel or PPC)....oh well. Thanks anyway.

It worked on every Mac I tried. You have to drag the mouse completely to the left or the right.

Great tip!

Also, if people want more dock options w/o opening the preferences plane, you can ctrl-click that line MacGeek referenced and a nice little menu appears with some common preferences, as well as a shortcut to the full dock preferences.

Thanks MacGeek!

You be a bit aggressive when you drag the mouse to make the dock move.

I often also use COMMAND-option-D to hide or unhide the dock quickly.

Did somebody say ctrl-click?

Man don't say that, it's because of people like you that Windows users still think Apple has a 1-button mouse! :p

Good tip though, one of the few which i didn't know yet :-)

When you're on a Powerbook without an external mouse it is a one-button mouse...
