A quicker page down and page up!

A great tip submitted by Kev: A quicker page down and page up! This is especially faster on portables and the new wireless iMac keyboard where you have to press "Function - down arrow" or "Function - up arrow" as a page down/page up. It works in a lot of applications, as long as you are not currently in a text box (it doesn't work in Pages for that reason). I tried it in Mail, Safari, Firefox and Camino and it was all fine. To go down, you can simply hit "Space Bar" and you can go up with "Shift - Space Bar". It works very well and it is, nearly all the time, so much faster. I actually use it on my full size keyboard. Thanks for the tip Kev!

"Command + down arrow" goes to the end of the document, while "command + up arrow" goes to the begining.

hey mike, home and end keys only go to the top and the bottom page, not the same as space and shift + space, man~

Not to mention the macbook pros (and probably others) don't have a home/end key.

Great tip.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Page up and down have been so klunky and frustrating on my 4-year-old iBook.
I love you.

try command page up to go to top of entry,
or command (apple) to go to bottom of entry.

cool.. i like it.

Today i figured out somethin' pretty neat. Ever try resizing the finder window only to find that the next time you open it, it opens up as its default size?

Try holding down the 'apple' button while you click to resize :) This also works for moving the window... I like it.

(I have a weird obsession with how my windows are positioned)

Jessings' tip of "Try holding down the 'apple' button while you click to resize" is a really good one! It worked in these applications: Quark, Photoshop, TextEdit, iTunes, iPhoto but not in Mail. Very odd! Maybe there is a box to untick/tick?

so i have a new challenge for everyone: what if you're playing itunes on your mac while simultaneously trying to scroll down on another program? When you hit space it pauses the song, instead of scrolling down ...

use fn+down arrow to page down. you can also use control+down arrow. (use up arrow for reverse on both). if you are inside a text box in a page (such as this one), you can't page down with space or page up with shift+space anyway... you HAVE to use either function or control key plus arrow key. again, command/apple key+arrow key jumps to top/ bottom of the page. hope this helps!

If you are using windows remote desktop from a mac machine then fn+ctrl+down moves to the right tab and fn+ctrl+up moves to the left tab in both firefox and chrome.

May not pertain to this particular tip but I though this was useful as I had spent some time looking for this but in the end discovered it accidentally.

There is no Home key or End key on the Macbook Pro keyboard. However, you can still execute the equivalent commands. For the Home command, press down the Fn + Left Arrow keystroke combination. For the End command, press the Fn + Right Arrow keyboard combination.

If you are using Microsoft Word, using the Command + Fn + Left Arrow to move to the beginning of the document and the Command + Fn + Right Arrow to move to the end.
