The fast way of sending files!
There are many ways of sending files over the Internet and one of the easiest way is the iDisk public folder, but not everyone has .Mac. The other fast way that I found is through an instant messaging application. I don't what the problem is, but using MSN or Skype, file transfers are extremely slow (about 3 KBps). The one that works well is iChat. I don't why but iChat gets at least 30 - 50 KBps. It is still slow, but much faster than every other IM app. The conventional way of sending the file is by going to the "Buddies" menu and choosing "Send File...", but there is a quicker way. You can just drag a file from the Finder and drop it over the contact you want to send it to in your Buddy List. It will ask you if you really want to send that file and that's it!

Yes, sendin a file using any IM is very slow and I don't know why. I actually use Adium (for MSN and ICQ contacts), iChat and Skype and ONLY with iCHAT there are no problem. I think it's a problem only if sending a file froma MAC to a PC (using different client in few words) but there aren't problems if sending files from a MAC to a MAC (with iChat for example) or from a PC to a PC.
I mean, its not mac software, but just use senduit.com and you're golden...
everyone can use the idisk! just drag the file u wanna share into the public folder, then have your friend go to idisk.mac.com/youraccount-Public and it shows the public folder to anyone for them to download or upload if you let them. its a very handy option that is unkown to many people!
iChat to iChat is always more powerful, regardless of what service (AIM, .Mac, or Jabber/Google Talk) you're using. This is because Apple uses it's own transport protocol (and some massively high-bandwidth servers) for iChat alongside the actual IM transport protocol.
Easiest way to verify this? Two people talking via Google Talk (Jabber) in iChat get both audio and video chat options, as well as drag-and-drop file transfer even though the Google Talk protocol doesn't support video chat, and definitely doesn't support file transfer.
iChat to another client (such as iChat to Google Talk client in Windows) doesn't get any of this 'added value'.
So...case in point...regardless of protocol the iChat client rocks!
I use Pando to send files. It's realy fast and works on Macs and PCs. It's also simple to use and it send files notification by email.
This is going to sound like an ad, but it's not (i'm not getting paid lol). It doesn't perfectly fit with this Mac Tip but I think it's related.

It's not something you'll use everyday, but bookmark it and you'll be glad you did.
I use Fetch to upload to my web host. I have a directory on the server just for dumping random files. Then I right-click on the file and choose Copy Web Address, and send that web address to the recipient by IM or e-mail. Might sound a little complicated but it's much faster when sending large files.

I use Firefox on MAC and PC with the GSpace plugin. With this you can use you GMail account (needed!) as a remote hard drive.
Also the WinFusion (app from Google) lets you connect to any FTPserver within Finder!!! (for a local network you can install Cerberus FTPserver on your PC)
You can also type the url of your Mac (username@ip.ad.dr.ess) in the explorer address bar. (you find your own address in system prefenrences > Share > FTP-access)
You might also mention that if you're on the same network, using Bonjour within iChat is MUCH faster than the "normal" iChat window.
Is it possible to use iChat without a .Mac or AIM account? Can I use my google account?
On the iChat setup wizard, I only have the option of using .Mac of AIM.
