Sorting color labels in the Finder!

In the Finder, you can sort files by Name, Date, Size, Kind, etc, but there is no way of sorting both by name and color labels. I think that could be very useful. I could add a color label to the edited files and have them move to the top by default. There is a way of doing something similar though. It is by renaming the files with a symbol in front to make them go to the top. I find this useful, but I think it always looks odd with the weird symbol. I finally found a symbol that makes sense however. On the US keyboard, you can get it with "Option - 8" and it is "•". What really makes me like it is that it is the same symbol than the one that goes besides new podcasts in iTunes. With this, I get two alphabetical lists, the one with the symbol and the one without.

Although this may not be exactly what you're looking for, it is possible to sort by label. You just have to enable label viewing in the "View Options" (Command-J). Then, you can sort by label, just as you would by name or date. The alphabetical sorting is preserved if you choose to sort the labels alphabetically (triangle indicator pointing up), but the sorting within a particular label is reversed if you reverse alphabetically sort the labels.

You don't have to use a symbol to move something to the top of a list. A space before the first letter will do that.

Hi there! I have a strange question: my mouse wheel is broken, but its horizontal scroll function still works. Is there any way to redirect it to vertical scrolling? I mean, so that if I rotate it left the window scrolls up and if I rotate it right the window scrolls down?

An even more simple way is to rename file titles, having them start with a number. Then you can sort your files (and folders!!) according to your necessity. It then looks something like:
1. Folder 1
2. Folder 3
...
or
1. File 1
2. File 2
...

You can get your item to the top of the list by placing a space in front of the name and the bottom of the list by typing a ~.

You can get anything to the top of the list by putting a space in front of the name. To the end of the list by putting a ~ before the name.

This tip – using the bullet character to jump files to the top of a list – is something I've been using for a long time. However, now that I have a new machine with Leopard, I've discovered that while this still works in Finder windows, any dialogue box for every application actually puts the bulleted items at the bottom. Very disorienting.

Anyone else experience this?

There is a reason why the files/subfolders in my folder may not be renamed in any way. That's why an Arrange-by-Color option is needed.
