Disabling preview in FCP!

If you are editing on a laptop or on a less powerful Mac and you know exactly what you want to do, it is possible to disable rendering in Final Cut Pro. The shortcut is Caps Lock. It is very useful when working with complicated animations.

Why would you want to disable rendering, then you can't preview anything, when disabling rendering(if its anything bigger than a photo, you need to render, with less powerful macs). When i have a lot of stuff to render, i just leave it for the night, by turning on cap locks, you can't render anything
If you hold command R, you can render a the highlighted video, and if you hold down Option R, you can render the whole timeline.
There is also an option to automatically render, if you have the option turned on, then you might want to disable rendering.

Thanks for the tip, for the beginners (also works in Final Cut Express)

Hey...so it seems you both have knowledge and experience with Final Cut Studio. Do either of you know a good resource or video blog that could help me learn how to use it??

Thanks much!

Hi ttunes,
I learnt a lot from watching tutorials on youtube, and similar websites. Apple stores also have classes on Final Cut Pro. If you need further assistance in Final Cut, tell me.

Hope you find some tutorials

I know that was an extremely short tip, but once again (my ISP is really terrible) my high speed was down. Worse, all the dial up lines were actually busy this time. I had to post it from my phone (It is long writing stuff with T9).

Hey ttunes,
I'm glad you asked that question about the tutorial. I just purchased FC Studio 2 for my classroom and now I see that it doesn't have a tutorial in it.

FCP 3 had a great tutorial about swing dancing that came with it. So many of my students have used it I think I could tell you every word that "Rob" the dance instructor says. It will still transfer over pretty well if you can get your hands on it.

For learning Final cut studio, Larry Jordan has some excellent tutorials on Lynda.com. From what I've heard, his live events are also well attended and quite good. He has his own website: http://www.larryjordan.biz
