The background color in Preview!
It is possible to change the color of the background in Preview. I didn't really understand the point at first, but it is a great way of testing how a picture will look like on your website by setting the same color as the background of your website. You can change it in the Preview preferences.

all this does is put a tiny colored rim around the otherwise white background of the opened pdf file.

For other types of files (jpg, png, etc.), this makes a big difference. Any time you select an area and cut it out, the background color you pick is what will be there.
