Bandwidth monitoring for Videotron!

A tip sent to me by Nick P. (posting it as a bonus tip because it only applies to Videotron users). Here is what Nick wrote:

I saw you posted a Mac Tip about bandwidth monitoring, and I have a solution for a few Canadians like myself....

If you are in Canada and using Videotron as your ISP, you can download a widget that fits into your dashboard from the apple site.

http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/networking_security/videotroninternetusagemonitor.html

Just plug in your account info and it should work perfect!

Thanks for the tip Nick!

Check out this recent article from the NY Times on bandwidth monitoring.

In the article the author mentions a shareware monitoring tool called Net Monitor (http://homepage.mac.com/rominar/net.html).
I am still to find a similar freeware alternative.

I have just found a couple freeware solutions, which I haven't tested.
TraffiX only monitors the traffic through Airport Extreme base stations:

A more generic software is SurplusMeter:
